Maximum Tilt: A Festival of Artists’ Moving Image

MAXIMUM TILT took place at the Byre Theatre, St Andrews, from 23-25 June 2026. The three-day festival of artists’ moving image was programmed by the artists Andrew Black and Anne-Marie Copestake. It was presented by LUX Scotland working in collaboration with the University of St Andrews Department of Film Studies and the Centre for Screen Cultures.

Prioritising slowness, conversation and being together across three days, Andrew and Anne-Marie programmed a series of screenings, discussions and group meals. The programme for MAXIMUM TILT explored land, place and belonging through a selection of films that examine collective agency over placemaking common to both rural and urban settings. Bringing together films made in Scotland and the UK in conversation with international works, the programmers aimed to undermine conservative narratives of place and to disrupt oversimplified and romantic ideas of the rural.
